For over 40 years, the Tees Valley Wildlife Trust has been working hard on behalf of wildlife and wild places in Teesside. We manage 16 nature reserves, which equate to over 800 acres of protected habitat, including three nationally important Sites of Special Scientific Interest! We also manage numerous other countryside sites, helping to secure the future of many important habitats and species that might otherwise be lost.<\/p>
A large part of our mission is to build a better relationship between people and nature, so we ensure all of our nature reserves are FREE to access. We also champion local communities and educate, influence, and empower people to make their lives richer through nature. We hope that by doing this, we help create communities that are collectively striving towards a better future for all.\u00a0<\/p>
Despite our successes, wildlife is still being lost at an alarming rate. The Tees Valley has been home to some of the country's biggest and dirtiest industrial operations. Many, like the mines and steelworks, have now closed and left behind them a legacy of economic deprivation and landscape pollution.\u00a0<\/p>
On a global scale, we have come to realise the importance of nature in our planets future. We believe the best place to start is in your own backyard. That is why we take pride in the work we do in Teesside to campaign for the kind of future we so desperately need. <\/p>

We engage with local and national government, with businesses and industry, with communities and individuals, to address all matters of environmental concern. And we do this with the added power to represent ourselves as one of 46 national Wildlife Trusts, operating under the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts.<\/p>

The strain on our environment hasn\u2019t happened by accident. One way or another, we have all invested trillions globally, knowingly and unknowingly, in unsustainable practices that have brought us to this current point of climate crisis and ecological decline. It would be unreasonable to think that we can climb back out of such a hole without similar investment and united efforts.\u00a0<\/p>
